Most people have a trauma in their lifetime. However most people will naturally recover from the event. When symptoms continue for a month it often leads to post traumatic stress. North Memorial’s Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Mental Health Recovery Clinic is one of few clinical resources in the entire Midwest that offers evidenced based multidisciplinary treatment for customers suffering from mental health problems due to post traumatic stress. These treatments are up to 85-90 percent effective, and usually are delivered within 10-12 sessions.

There are a number of treatment options for post traumatic stress, including Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Seeking Safety: A Treatment Manual for PTSD and Substance Abuse, as well as post traumatic stress skills and nightmare rescripting groups. Medications to manage symptoms associated with post traumatic stress may also be integrated into the treatment.
Special attention is focused on people who have experienced trauma from military combat, sexual assault/rape, childhood sexual abuse, and natural disaster.
