North Memorial Health’s three-to-four-week intensive programs provide evidence-based treatment interventions for pediatrics and adults with communication impairments.

Intensive Cognitive-Communication Program
Rehabilitation services for individuals with cognitive-communication impairments are primarily offered through acute inpatient programs. We recognize that the need for therapy does not end with a hospital stay. North Memorial Health offers an intensive outpatient program that is designed to support adults with brain injuries who are working towards community reintegration.
Ideal Customer:
The program is designed for individuals who experience cognitive-linguistic deficits resulting from an acquired brain injury. Generally, the following criteria apply:
- Mild to moderate cognitive-linguistic deficits
- Otherwise healthy, with adequate vision and hearing
- Able to tolerate 3 ½ hours of treatment
- Motivated and fully committed to participate
This program is intended for individuals who experience cognitive-linguistic deficits that impact their ability to function at home or in the community. It is the ideal option for individuals who recently completed an inpatient rehabilitation program, or do not benefit from a traditional therapy schedule (3-5 hours per week).
Daily Treatment:
- Individual therapy with a speech language pathologist
- One hour of therapy using computers and/or technologies
- Thirty minutes of structured communication activities
- One hour of group therapy directed by speech language pathologists
Program Dates:
In this innovative program, customers participate in treatment sessions for three and a half hours a day, four days a week over the course of four weeks.

Let's Talk! Pediatric Intensive Speech Program
Clinical research indicates that therapy provided more frequently results in better outcomes for children with apraxia of speech or speech sound disorders. North Memorial Health offers a program that is designed to help children improve their speech intelligibility in functional communication environments. Children participate in a combination of individual and group treatment sessions tailored to the child’s needs.
Ideal Customer:
The program is designed for children with a diagnosis of childhood apraxia of speech or a moderate to severe articulation or phonological disorder. Generally, the following criteria apply:
- Age 3 – 5 years old
- Moderate to severe articulation or phonological disorder
- Age-appropriate language and social communication skills
This program is intended for children who experience speech disorders that impact their intelligibility when communicating at home, school or in the community. It is the ideal option for children who currently receive speech-language therapy but would benefit from a period of more intensive intervention.
Daily Treatment:
- Individual therapy with a speech language pathologist
- Theme-based group activities
- Opportunities to practice speech with peers
- Thirty minutes of structured communication activities
- Fine and gross motor activities
- Daily snack
Program Dates:
In this innovative program, customers participate in treatment sessions for two and a half hours a day, five days a week over the course of three weeks.

We bill insurance for the cost of the program. We will review your specific insurance situation during the application process. If you do not have coverage for speech therapy, we will direct you to our outpatient therapy insurance liaison for assistance with a cost estimate.

For a full 4-week program, we bill 21 treatment sessions. This includes a post-program evaluation.
No. While our program does include group components, we do not bill for the time spent in group.

No. This is an outpatient treatment program. However, there are lodging options nearby.
No. In order to participate, each participant needs to have a transportation plan. This can include receiving rides from caregivers, friends, metro mobility, cabs, or other rideshare services (e.g., Uber, Lyft).
We do not provide breakfast or lunch. However, we provide a selection of snacks during our structured social time at 10:00. Water and coffee are available throughout the day. Participants are also welcome to bring their own snacks or beverages.
No. However, a caregiver is required to be present if the participant requires assistance with toileting.
Progress varies on an individual basis. Progress is measured via a combination of post-program standardized assessment and patient-centered outcome measures.
Your primary speech-language pathologist will make recommendations regarding repeated participation.
