Patients who have undergone bariatric surgery at North Memorial have seen more than smaller jean sizes. They’ve also experienced drastic improvements in obesity related health risks. Cholesterol is lower, blood pressure and blood sugars stabilize and in some cases, diabetes goes into remission.
Since its inception in 2013, North Memorial’s Bariatric Surgery Center patients have lost an average of 72 pounds each. In addition:
- Almost 70% of those suffering from hypertension have been able to reduce medication.
- 56% are in total remission.
- Those not in remission have reduced their need for medication by 31%.
- 92% of patients with diabetes have been able to reduce medication and of these, 86.6% percent are in total remission.
North Memorial’s Bariatric Surgical Center is nationally accredited and partners with Specialists in General Surgery, headed by Jonathan C. Gipson, MD, FACS. Services include outpatient consultation, laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic gastric bypass.
