Our Junior Volunteers are young adults who give their time to help throughout our hospitals while still in high school. We are so grateful for their service and proud of the many ways we see them grow and develop into the future leaders of healthcare and our community.
North – Robbinsdale Hospital: Junior Volunteer Scholarship Winners
The scholarship program at North – Robbinsdale Hospital was originally founded with a gift from the Hospital Auxiliary to support young adult volunteers. Though the Auxiliary is no longer active today, the legacy of their generosity lives on through the accomplishment of these exceptional volunteers.
Chiashee Ly
“I chose to volunteer at North Memorial Health in Robbinsdale because I wanted to learn more about the health science field, and being able to volunteer gave me hands on experience rather than only hearing about it. My experience here mainly helped my social skills, but I still learned a lot about how the hospital worked and got to see
how hardworking our healthcare workers are.”

“When I began volunteering at North Memorial Health two years ago, I thought that I wanted to be a doctor. The reasons were simple: I loved biology, and I wanted to have a career where I could give back to my community and improve the lives of others. My interests have changed somewhat since then, but my experience volunteering cemented my desire to work in a field where my work benefits others.”
Sabrina Bucaro
“I believe that my experience at North Memorial Health will help me be a more caring and empathetic medical professional because it has allowed me to see the hospital from a patient’s perspective. By interacting with patients and their families, I am constantly reminded that a patient is much more than just their disease or illness; a patient is a complex person with ideas, relationships, and values, whose struggle does not end once they leave the hospital.”
North – Maple Grove Hospital: Gayle Stegeman Memorial Scholarship Winner
The Gayle Stegeman Memorial Scholarship, the junior volunteer scholarship program at North – Maple Grove Hospital, was created in 2018 to honor the memory of our beloved gift shop manager, Gayle. While Gayle dreamed of becoming a doctor, she was unable to pay for medical school. Instead, she found her own unique way to support our hospital and the health of our community through our gift shop and was an inspiration to many throughout the hospital, both patients and team members.
Lexi Henke
“I chose North – Maple Grove Hospital because it is a community-based hospital that gives back to people in the community in which I live. I hope to obtain a job in the medical field after college, and my experience that I have gained from volunteering at the hospital has made me feel more comfortable being in the hospital setting.”
