Dr. Hawes became a doctor because he was interested in learning how the body worked and enjoyed working with and helping others. Today, he hopes that is reflected in his approach to care.
He likes to take the time to discuss with patients and their families, as appropriate, what’s happening to their body and what can be done to help it heal or recover from a trauma or illness. Together, Dr. Hawes and his patient make the decision on how to proceed, and he does everything possible to assure procedures are technically well performed and as safe as possible.

Personal
Dr. Hawes grew up just a few miles from North Memorial Health Hospital, and he and all five of his siblings were born there. He also had surgery on a middle school knee injury performed by Dr. Kraft and still remembers being treated with kindness and respect by everyone.
Dr. Hawes spent two years in Chile where he met hundreds of incredible, happy people. These interactions taught him how much he enjoys working with others, and how much he can learn from others’ perspectives, including an appreciation for his educational opportunities and desire to help others.
He enjoys many different sports, though he spends more time watching then playing these days. Dr. Hawes met his wife in Houston, Texas while he was in medical school. Together, they love spending time outdoors, hiking and getting to know different parts of the Midwest and the rest of the country.
