North Memorial Health Foundation often receives gifts to be used “where the need is greatest.” To help decide where those needs really are, the Foundation’s Board of Directors looked to the experts in our health system: our team members.
Last fall, the Board launched the annual small grant program to direct these funds to where the needs exist. This program has allowed collaboration with our care teams in identifying the most pressing needs they see every day in their work and the opportunity for them to share their solutions.
The Board received responses from across our organization and thus far has provided $200,000 to support these innovative team member-led initiatives. For 2020, small grants will focus on funding direct patient care and team member development.
We are excited to announce the following grant projects for the coming year:
- New handheld Point of Care Ultrasound machine will bring this important technology right to our patients wherever they are.
- Upgrades to our simulation training space and new learning models will allow care team members to practice the most challenging medical scenarios for real-time feedback and interdisciplinary learning opportunities
- Relaxation and stress management services such as guided imagery, massages, and acupressure will support mothers bonding with their new babies and preparing for a healthier transition home after birth.
- Child Life supplies and equipment will help our specialists take the fear and pain out of medical procedures for our youngest patients through play and distraction.
