Each year, North Memorial Health awards the Ralph Rossen Award of Nursing Excellence to one team member. We are excited to announce Nathan Pineault, RN, as this year’s winner!
Congratulations, Nathan!

Nathan Pineault, RN
Nate has been a team member in the TNICU since 2022 and has recently transitioned to dual employment with North Air Care as a flight nurse. Previously, Nate has work as an EMT for North Memorial Health EMS and has also served as a missionary nurse and medical director/base leader in Panama. He uses the knowledge he has gained and experiences he has had throughout his career to live up to North’s mission, vision and values.
Nate delivers exceptional experiences to his team and patients while deepening relationships with core communities by being a positive influence that advocates for his patients and their families. Because of his experience in Panama, Nate is fluent in Spanish and is able to effectively communicate in difficult times and offer support when families and patients may otherwise feel that they are unheard due to a language barrier, helping him better understand others’ thinking, beliefs, and how they understand the medical information that is relayed to them.
Congratulations to Nathan for standing out as an example of the care we all strive to provide! He has exemplified the remarkable, compassionate care of the late Dr. Ralph Rossen for whom the award is named. Dr. Ralph Rossen was a pioneer of mental health care reform in Minnesota and, like Nathan, was committed to exceptional care for all.
Dr. Rossen's Legacy
While Dr. Rossen passed away in 1975, his legacy lives on throughout North Memorial Health and our entire state. To honor this memory, his family decided to work with North Memorial Health Foundation to create an annual award program that would support the hospital and recognize exceptional care.
His story is best told in the words of his late daughter, Arlene. This article was originally published in a 1996 hospital newsletter. Opens in new window
