Each year, North Memorial Health honors one remarkable nurse with the Ralph Rossen Award for Nursing Excellence, recognizing compassion, leadership, and clinical excellence that exemplify the very best of our profession. We are proud to celebrate this year’s recipient, Stacy Moot, RN, of Robbinsdale Hospital’s Emergency Department.
Congratulations, Stacy!
Stacy joined the Emergency Department in 2020, bringing with her a wealth of experience from the Vascular Access Team and A4. From her first day, she has been a steady source of skill, empathy and strength delivering exceptional care to every patient she encounters and serving as one of our core night‑shift charge nurses.
Highly respected by her colleagues, Stacy leads with a calm, approachable presence and an unwavering commitment to teamwork. Whether lending a hand during a busy shift or creating joy through her “Saturday night potlucks,” she cultivates connection, camaraderie, and resilience among her team. Her thoughtful gestures – often including treats to help the night crew push through the 4 a.m. lull – reflect her deep understanding of what it takes to care for one another while caring for others.
A powerful example of Stacy’s impact came when she cared for a critically ill patient whose condition required transition to comfort care in the stabilization room. Despite the fast pace and challenges of the environment, Stacy transformed the space into one of calm and compassion. She played soft, comforting music, facilitated a phone connection so the patient’s sister could speak to her, and read aloud from the devotional Jesus Calling – moments that brought peace and dignity to the patient’s final hours.
Through her empathy, intention, and clinical excellence, Stacy turned a challenging situation into one of profound human connection and healing. Her actions exemplify what nursing excellence means at North Memorial Health – care that touches lives, eases hearts, and honors every patient’s humanity.
Dr. Rossen's Legacy
While Dr. Rossen passed away in 1975, his legacy lives on throughout North Memorial Health and our entire state. To honor this memory, his family decided to work with North Memorial Health Foundation to create an annual award program that would support the hospital and recognize exceptional care.
His story is best told in the words of his late daughter, Arlene. This article was originally published in a 1996 hospital newsletter.
