Steve and Lisa’s Story

A cancer diagnosis, a new baby, and a second home at the North Memorial Health Cancer Center: How a growing family helps grow the Foundation.

Steve and Lisa had already raised two children when they became foster parents to Ajarae, then just a baby.  After receiving the devastating news that  Steve’s doctors had found late-stage cancer in his body, their family faced a difficult decision—whether they would be able to go ahead with Ajarae’s adoption knowing Steve had an uncertain future.  However, Ajarae had already won over their hearts and was already a part of their family and shortly later they completed the final adoption paperwork.

Now a toddler, Ajarae often attended treatment with her dad and has won over the hearts of all of the staff as well.   As her dad settles into the treatment bay, she takes off to greet the other patients, visit her favorite team members and discover what’s new around the Cancer Center.  Steve and Lisa say they have found a second home at the North Memorial Cancer Center and they are grateful to have access to advanced treatment at an outstanding center.   Because of this, they have stepped up to support fundraising for North Memorial Foundation and have helped ensured that others in their community have access to the same level of care as well.
