North Memorial Health Names Mike Opat as First Chief Business Development and Community Relations Officer

Mike OpatNorth Memorial Health is pleased to announce that Mike Opat has accepted a newly created senior leadership role as chief business development and community relations officer (CBRO) at North Memorial Health. This appointment is effective May 2, 2022.

In this position, Opat will lead system business development and outreach, manage all aspects of government relations, oversee strategic community partnerships and sponsorships, and will play a key role in driving North’s growth strategy for the future.

Opat brings extensive experience to the role, having served 28 years as a Hennepin County Commissioner, where he led a number of transformational projects, including efforts to modernize the governance model for Hennepin Healthcare and supporting work to build and finance Target Field. He helped develop transportation projects, including the Bottineau Light Rail – a $1.6 billion project that will run through Robbinsdale to Brooklyn Park – and renovating the Victory Memorial Drive Parkway. Recently, Opat served as a consultant to North, working on securing federal funding to modernize air flow systems in the Robbinsdale Emergency Department.
