2025 Junior Volunteer Scholarship Winners

08/20/2025

Our Junior Volunteers are young adults who give their time to help throughout our hospitals while still in high school. We are so grateful for their service and proud of the many ways we see them grow and develop into the future leaders of healthcare and our community.

North – Robbinsdale Hospital: Junior Volunteer Scholarship Winners

The scholarship program at North – Robbinsdale Hospital was originally founded with a gift from the Hospital Auxiliary to support young adult volunteers. Though the Auxiliary is no longer active today, the legacy of their generosity lives on through the accomplishment of these exceptional volunteers.

Amelia Jorgensen

“Each time I go up to a floor I get a small glimpse of what it is like to be a nurse. Even that has just furthered my intentions to be a nurse, seeing the massive impact each of them have on patients. The bond they create with a patient they might have only known for a couple hours is so much more important than some may think.”

“I started volunteering at North to get a taste of what is to come in my future. I will be heading off to college with much more than I could have expected from North. I’ll take what I learned with me when I’m collecting my patient care hours for PA school through the end of my career.”

North – Maple Grove Hospital: Gayle Stegeman Memorial Scholarship Winner

The Gayle Stegeman Memorial Scholarship, the junior volunteer scholarship program at North – Maple Grove Hospital, was created in 2018 to honor the memory of our beloved gift shop manager, Gayle. While Gayle dreamed of becoming a doctor, she was unable to pay for medical school. Instead, she found her own unique way to support our hospital and the health of our community through our gift shop and was an inspiration to many throughout the hospital, both patients and team members.

Suhani Shah

“As someone pursuing a career as a physician assistant, volunteering at the hospital has given me valuable insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of healthcare professionals beyond what we may typically see through the lens of a patient. From assisting with background tasks to observing the fast-paced medical environment, I’ve definitely gained a deeper appreciation for the teamwork and communication that goes into patient care.”

“Being a Post Partum Unit Attendant Volunteer has been one of my favorite extracurriculars I have done. Volunteering in the Post Partum Unit has shown me that this unit is what I want to go into after I finish university and head into my professional career as Nurse.”
