2021 Junior Volunteer Scholarship Winners

08/04/2021

We are pleased to announce the 2021 junior volunteer scholarship winners. The Gayle Stegeman Memorial Scholarship, the junior volunteer scholarship program at Maple Grove Hospital, was created in 2018 to honor the memory of our beloved gift shop manager, Gayle. Gayle was an inspiration to many throughout the hospital, both patients and team members.

The scholarship program at North Memorial Health Hospital was originally founded with a gift from the Hospital Auxiliary to support young adult volunteers. Though the Auxiliary is no longer active today, the legacy of their generosity lives on through the accomplishment of these exceptional volunteers.

Junior Volunteer Scholarship Recipients - North Memorial Health Hospital

Ali

“I checked N95 mask to ensure that they were not defective, made a poster for the doctors and the nurses who work at the hospital, and assembled COVID-19 kits. Although it was a unique experience, I admired volunteering during COVID because I was still able to safely perform the work.”

Dhanush

“Before I started to volunteer, I was known as a talker. This experience helped me understand that it’s also important to listen.”

Misha

“In a world that is constantly moving at a fast pace, we often forget to slow down and recognize the compassion and good-heartedness that we are able to show another human. What motivates me to volunteer is the smile that I can put on someone else’s face or the shred of brightness that I can add to anyone’s life.”

“I have gained incredible respect for all healthcare workers and have found meaning in realizing that being a part of the community is knowing that everybody’s story is different.”

Prayag

“My volunteering experience at North Memorial has given me the opportunity to learn more about the medical industry and the hospital while being able to assist patients in various small, yet impactful, ways.”
