My name is Regina Magee and I am here today to tell my story and what I went through. December of 2022 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I was at work when I received a phone call from Tamera at North Memorial and I cried for, I cried for about 5 or 10 minutes and what was going through my head again is, what am I going to do? Before I got the phone with Tamera she actually took me through my next steps so at that time I’m like okay, my next step is to fight.
North Memorial is unique in the cancer care space because we have a very strong team. We have very effective communication between surgeons, between radiation oncologists, and the medical oncologist is at the center of all that. I met Regina after she had a breast cancer surgery and so our first question was do we incorporate chemotherapy and we decided yes it was necessary for her case and we started that about a month after her surgery. Her chemotherapy course lasted for 5 months and after completing chemotherapy then we decided to move towards radiation we really work hard to make sure that every little thing is looked at.
There is no one size fits-all approach. Aach person has a unique situation be it the cancer or be it the challenges of the personal situation – we work really hard to tailor the care for each individual that walks through our door.
Having a strong team-based approach for Cancer Care means the patient is going to get the most effective and complete care for their unique tumor.
One thing I loved what they, told me if you’re ever feeling down and you can’t find anyone to talk to you can always call me. You can always call me. And one day I did. If that’s not caring about a patient, I don’t know what is. When I look back at my experience at North Memorial Cancer Center I had so much care from this facility. It was like I was going to my second family when I was going through chemo because when I came here I felt great because the inside of the nurses, the doctors and everyone here when you’re getting that treatment was
Amazing. After all of my treatments and the time timeline um I actually just had my one year July 11th that was my one year for my last day of chemo. I probably rang that bell so loud it was probably heard in NASA – I seriously rang rang rang rang rang that bell because that bell to me represents a new start, a fresh start – we are healthy now, now we have to set goals to where we are going to move forward. We were saved, here you know – that’s what that represents for me.
