Approach To Care

Many customers who have felt intimidated in other healthcare settings welcome Dr. Haugland’s casual style and approach. He believes that no topic is out of bounds and wants to be sure that customers feel comfortable telling him what is really going on in their lives. He celebrates and welcomes cultural and ethnic diversity. Getting to know the rich and complex backgrounds of his customers and their families is one of his favorite parts of being a doctor.

Dr. Haugland provides primary and transgender care as well as geriatric medicine. He has interests in working with geriatric customers, customers with sexual health concerns, and gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) customers. He consistently works to support LGBT health with a special interest in and working with transgender individuals.

In partnership with a clinical pharmacist, Dr. Haugland works to complete hormone management for transgender customers including puberty blockers, when needed, for youth. He follows World Professional Association of Transgender Health (WPATH) standards of care.

Personal

Dr. Haugland grew up on a farm in northwest Iowa. Fall is one of his favorite seasons of the year when he routinely takes time off to go back to Iowa and help his parents with the annual harvest. Along with his husband, Dr. Haugland enjoys flying, bicycling, motorcycling, kayaking, cross country and downhill skiing, and playing wallyball. Each year, they routinely go bicycling on RAGBRAI in Iowa and to the annual airplane fly-in festival in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
