Video Transcript: Tour of the North Memorial Health Cancer Center

This video features footage of North Memorial Health Cancer Center – Robbinsdale.

North Memorial has everything you need right here at this Cancer Center. We have people who are going to take care of you from the moment that you walk in the door. We have all of these disciplines who really make this happen so that you feel like you’re at a comprehensive cancer center, and it’s all in one place. The exceptional, cutting-edge, well-rounded care in a small intimate community setting — that is in my opinion what is one of the greatest things about Cancer Care at North Memorial.

There’s all these weapons that we bring to bear, but the skill of our team is that we take a multi-disciplinary approach, and we decide together what’s the best sequence of treatments, what’s the best combination of treatments for each individual patient, and I think that’s something we really pride ourselves in on behalf of our patients.

From the time that a person gets a diagnosis to the next steps of surgery or chemotherapy, our wait times are a week shorter than the national average. We are able to deliver whatever is appropriate for a certain person, be it immunotherapy or genetics based treatment or chemotherapy or maybe the latest surgical technique.

We have imaging right across the hallway, we have radiation oncology on the other side of our wall. I’m the oncology social worker here, but I joined with two of the financial advocates, and together we really take the role of the social service team. It means that their needs even outside of their medical needs that cancer brings to them are addressed by a professional. I think that personalized approach is exceptional at North Memorial, and I think that’s what draws people in, and I think that’s what makes people feel like they are well cared for.

About Your Care

Comprehensive Treatment

Our cancer center houses all the treatments and technology needed to provide you with the most coordinated, advanced care possible – without having to leave the building.

Cancer Center Patient Room

Chemotherapy

We offer 20 private infusion rooms, each set up with massage/heat chairs provided by our generous donors, to accommodate all who are going through infusion treatments and care for each patient’s personal needs. Here are a few tips we like to share:

  • Dress in comfortable layers, as the infusion area may be cold. You can bring blankets or pillows with you—we also offer warmed blankets and pillows.
  • You can bring lunches, snacks or have food delivered. There are no eating restrictions.
  • Please remember to bring everything you need with you to the infusion area, as you must stay in the private room or lounge area during treatment.
  • We accommodate families when we can, but there is always a risk of chemo exposure. Small children should have only limited time in the area. Please limit to just one or two visitors.

Radiation

We partner with Minneapolis Radiation Oncology to lead our radiation treatment for cancer, delivering the best possible outcome for each patient just down the hall from the North Memorial Health Cancer Center.

Imaging

With MRI and PET scanners available on-site, our imaging technicians can capture the necessary images help providers understand the current situation and determine the best next steps for your treatment and care.

Immunotherapy

This group of medications is designed to stimulate your own immune system to recognize and eliminate cancer cells.
